Background
Atem Dut DeKuek holds an MSc in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies from London School of Economics and Political Science (2018) and a B.A. in Mass Communications (First Class Honours) from Uganda Christian University (2011). Atem de Kuek has over ten years of experience in development and field research in South Sudan. Atem de Kuek is currently supporting UNICEF South Sudan as an independent consultant working on social science evidence generation, and has provided concrete evidence on child marriages and recently on behavioural change communication around COVID-19. In his research, Atem de Kuek has applied Social Norms Analysis Plot (SNAP framework), using vignette stories to unearth crucial evidences on how common normative beliefs in South Sudan such as social norms on handshakes and group eating (for UNICEF’s C4D programming) and cattle raiding and child abduction (CARE international peace-building programming) have impeded emergency, development and recovery efforts by interveners,
such as the uptakes of risk communications and community engagement efforts of UNICEF and other humanitarian partners.
Atem de Kuek co-founded the Innovation for Impact Solutions (IIS Consulting) in 2018, a national think tank in South Sudan established to fill the fundamental void of local researchers in research, policy analysis and capacity building in development, humanitarian response, peacebuilding and governance sectors for effective in-country contributions to South Sudan’s recovery and development processes. IIS Consulting is a reputable, credible and independent think tank in South Sudan renowned for providing research-based evidence and policy analysis to support the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs in development, humanitarian response, peace-building and governance sectors.
